4 Tips on How to Have a Successful Natural Birth

successful natural birth tips

Natural birth isn’t for everyone.

In fact, more than half of women opt not to do it. But, for others, it may feel empowering or it may just be a preference because of the risks that can be associated with medicated births.

If you’re thinking about going for a natural childbirth, first talk to your doctor to see if it’s the best option for you and your baby. Then, follow these helpful tips to make your natural birth more successful.

Tip #1: Don’t listen to naysayers.

There will always be people who try to talk you out of having a natural birth. But if you’re determined to give it a try, and your doctor approves, then stick with your decision.

Tip #2: Make sure your doctor is on board.

As we’ve already mentioned, talking to your doctor is important. But, beyond that, it’s important to find an obstetrician who is experienced in and sympathetic to women who want to birth their child naturally.

Tip #3: Take classes on natural childbirth.

These classes not only help educate you on the details of childbirth, but also on various relaxation techniques for managing your pain during labor.

Tip #4: Consider hiring a doula or midwife.

Home births have a great success rate for natural birth, but can only be done with low risk pregnancies. If you’re unable to explore that option, consider a doula to help coach you through labor in a hospital or birthing center.
