Diabetes and Impotence

Risks associated with diabetes: SBDPro Urological & Prostate Health Blog

Men with diabetes are at higher risk for developing other health issues, especially if the individual does not manage diabetes symptoms well. Poorly managed diabetes can result in cardiovascular disease, nerve damage and anxiety.

Unfortunately, all of these risk factors can lead to additional issues such as erectile dysfunction.

The link between diabetes and impotence is complex. ED can be caused by both physical and emotional factors. With diabetes, the possibility of decreased blood flow and nerve damage can directly impact a man’s ability to maintain an erection during intercourse. These physical issues paired with an increased risk of anxiety or depression make treating erectile dysfunction particularly difficult.

Thankfully, there are plenty of options for ED treatment. However, diabetic men may have to avoid oral medications that can increase the risk of heart disease. Talk with your doctor to find out more about the link between diabetes and impotence.
