When you’re young, topics such as prostate cancer elude you. But knowing the facts about prostate cancer now can help many young men fight the disease in the future.

Prostate cancer is the 2nd most common cancer found in men in the U.S. In 2013, it was estimated that 2.8 million men were living with prostate cancer in the U.S. Despite its prevalence, prostate cancer has very high survivability rates. In fact, 98.9% of men diagnosed with prostate cancer will live 5 years or beyond after receiving treatments.

Symptoms of Prostate Cancer to Look Out For

Early detection of prostate cancer is key. That’s why prostate exams become more and more necessary as men age. The symptoms of prostate cancer do not always show up in men who have the disease.

However, knowing what to look for can certainly help young men be mindful of their prostate health in the future. Symptoms may include:

  • Frequent urination
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Pain while urinating
  • Blood in the urine or semen
  • Erectile dysfunction

See your doctor if you experience one of the symptoms listed above or are overdue for a prostate exam.
