Yet Another Study Showing Why You Shouldn’t Douche

don’t douche in shower

There are so many reasons not to douche.

For starters, douching can cause an overgrowth of bacteria which can lead to a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis. It can also push any infection you already have into your fallopian tubes, uterus and ovaries, which can lead to PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease).

And if you are pregnant it can cause preterm birth.

Another Reason Not To Douche

Now, another study has given us a reason women why should not douche. A large study completed by  The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in the U.S. and Puerto Rico found that women who douched doubled their risk of getting ovarian cancer.

Ovarian cancer is considered a “silent killer” because there are usually no symptoms until the cancer has progressed to a more serious stage. Because ovarian cancer is not usually detected until a later stage, the 5-year survival rate is just 46.5%.
